Mia Sheridan is the author of Archer’s Voice which is one of my favorite books of the year. She was nice enough to answer a few questions for me.
What inspired you to write Archer's Voice?
I'd just read three or four books in a row where the heroes sort of all blended together, and I felt like I really wanted to try something new, bring a "different" sort of hero to the romance genre. The idea of a disability came to me first and I really got a clear vision in my head of Archer Hale… withdrawn, shy, sweet, and desperately wanting love, but resigned to never having it. From there, the story started to unfold in my head.
How did it feel to hit the USA today list?
For me, making a list is amazing because it means that a lot of people have given my book a try. But ultimately, it's the readers themselves that are the real win, the list is just an extra. J
Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
I guess the big message I was trying to convey, is that sometimes a person's perceived "imperfection" is really the very thing that makes them perfect.
Are the experiences you write about based on true events?
The storyline, no. But as far as Archer's character, I did try to really recollect those times in my life where I've felt like the one left behind, or the one no one sees. I think we've all had those moments of lonliness.
What books have influenced your life most?
My very favorite book is, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. I can remember just sobbing my heart out the first time I read it. It really touched me.
Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?
I recently read Amy Harmon for the first time and I LOVED it – I'm looking forward to having time to read more of her books. And of course, Colleen Hoover and Abby Glines are my idols! I love everything they write.
Do you have a special time to write or how is your day structured?
Well luckily, my husband works nights and so he's able to help me during the day with our 4 year old and I can get some writing in then. But I also write at night after the kids have gone to bed.
What are your current projects?
I just finished Becoming Calder which is inspired by aquarius. I'm working on the second part of the story right now, Finding Eden.
Can you share a little of your current work with us?
The story is a forbidden romance about two people who grow up in a religious community. That's all I'll say right now. ;)
Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
Just how much I appreciate each and every single one. I am constantly floored that people are sitting in their homes at night reading my stories. It's surreal and I am humbled.
